Yellowstone National Park was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on March 1, 1872. Most of Yellowstone is located in the state of Wyoming with parts extending into Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone was the first national park in the world, and is known for its spectacular wildlife and its many geothermal features. Mount Washburn is located in the northeastern region of the park, near the west end of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.
Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468 square miles and the natural beauty of the area is showcased via the mountain ranges, canyons, rivers and lakes. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera.
